ACT IN FRANCE - TECHNICAL SUPPORT

The aim? To roll out the ACT system in France and provide financial support for volunteer companies.

ADEME provides financial support to volunteer companies for the implementation of ACT methodologies via several windows.

ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, offers training sessions to help you understand how to implement the ACT Step-by-Step and Evaluation approaches. The ACT methods are available online in their original English versions, sometimes translated into French. Consultants who have undergone ACT training (Step by Step and/or Evaluation) are put forward to support companies in their low-carbon transition.

Formation

ADEME has developed 2 training courses (for companies and consultants) to build skills in implementing approaches to developing a decarbonization strategy and a transition plan, and assessing it in terms of the mitigation objective of the Paris Agreement. The training courses are led by consultants involved in the ACT initiative since its launch in 2015.

Method and tools

Methods

Before using ACT, every company must carry out a GHG emissions assessment in accordance with French regulations, ISO 14064-1 or the GHG protocol. These can be carried out using the Bilan Carbone® tool.

Developing your strategy and transition plan

Companies in any sector that do not yet have low-carbon transition plans can, even if they have science-based reduction targets, develop their decarbonization strategies and implement the associated action plan with the ACT Step by Step methodology and tools.

ACT Step by Step presentation

Ce document est une présentation autoportante de la démarche ACT Pas à Pas: la méthode, les outils, le système de reconnaissance et des informations pratiques pour la mise en œuvre.

ACT Step by Step methodology

This document presents the ACT Step by Step methodological framework, the prerequisites for starting up a project to implement the method, and the recognition system. Recommendations for implementation are also presented.

Evaluate your strategy with regard to the mitigation objective of the Paris Agreement

Companies in the following sectors can have their transition strategies and plans assessed using ACT sector-specific methods.

Tools

ADEME has developed tools to facilitate the implementation of ACT methods, which are used during training courses. These tools are available on request, and a license contract (from €1,000/year for commercial use) is signed between ADEME and the company with users trained in the methods (a training certificate is required).

For further information, please contact Sophie PROUST, methodology officer for the ACT Volunteer Program in France and Christelle Millotte, manager of ADEME’s Adaptation and Low-Carbon Trajectory Department.

Communication

To publicize your company’s commitment to the ACT Step by Step approach, ADEME has developed a recognition system. The cost of commitment depends on the size of your company (from €2,000), and covers verification of the elements communicated at the 3 checkpoints before validation by ADEME.

To publicly communicate your company’s ACT results, a critical review must be carried out by a trained consultant. The list below is available for this purpose.

Consultant network

The list of consulting firms trained in ACT Step by Step and/or ACT Sector Evaluation methods is regularly updated, so that you can benefit from tailor-made support and recommendations.
