Performance Score

Strengths of the strategy: The targets set by EDF are validated by SBTi. On scope 1 & 2, EDF has already achieved its target in 2022 of a 50 reduction in emissions set for 2030. In addition, past and future emission decline trends outpace industry trends. EDF is positively committed to political decision-makers to "strengthen the climate" in the political environment in which it operates.
Areas for improvement identified: The granularity of the information provided by EDF on its electricity production should be accompanied by its emissions (by asset and geographical area). In addition, the large amount of nuclear energy produced by EDF (in 2022, 328 TWh out of a total of 431 TWh) makes its fossil fuel production appear to be unimportant. EDF could do more to accelerate the phase-out of coal and gas-fired generation capacity

Narrative Score

EDF's strategy seems to take climate issues into account in a structural way, but its coal and gas activities do not seem to be called into question.

Trend score

The company's emissions have fallen significantly in recent years, but EDF must revise its targets upwards to encourage it to continue its momentum of reducing emissions.
